2003
(Nov. 24) Amy DiBianca ran the ninth-best
6,000-meter time in Emory University history to lead the Eagles
in the NCAA Division III National Championships. DiBianca, a freshman,
finished 58th out of 213 runners with a time of 23 minutes 22 seconds.
Her time was the third fastest by an Eagle this season, and the
fastest by a freshman at an NCAA national meet at that distance
in school history. This also marked the third time this season that
she has finished first on the team. Emory extended its streak to
13 consecutive appearances at the nationals, the longest active
streak in NCAA Division III.
(Nov. 17) Caroline Hagedorn was the top
finisher for Emory University, leading the Eagles to a first place
finish at the NCAA Division III South Region Championships. Hagedorn,
a freshman, finished fifth out of 157 runners, earning a spot on
the all-region team. Her time of 23 minutes and 32 seconds was the
fourth best time by an Eagle runner this season on a 6,000-meter
course. It was the first time she has been the team's top finisher
in a race this season. Hagedorn improved her win-loss record to
870-61, third best on the team. Emory, ranked 20th in the nation,
won the regional meet for the 13th consecutive year.
(Nov. 3) Amy DiBianca became only the second
freshman in school history to make the all-conference first team,
by finishing fourth out of 78 runners at the University Athletic
Association championship. It was the highest finish ever for an
Emory freshman at a conference meet. This also marked the second
time this season that she has been the Eagles' top runner. DiBianca's
time of 22 minutes and 49 seconds for the 6,000-meter course is
52 seconds faster than her time at the NCAA pre-national meet Oct.
10, Emory's only other 6,000-meter race this season. Her time also
is the fifth fastest ever by an Eagle in any 6,000-meter race. The
Eagles, ranked 17th in the nation, finished in third place, extending
a streak of 13 consecutive top-three finishes at the conference
meet.
(Oct. 27) Angela Davie finished fourth
overall out of 193 runners while leading Emory University to a second-place
finish at the Southeastern Classic. The junior's time of 18 minutes
and 29 seconds on the 5,000-meter course was two seconds shy of
her best time this season. Davie, an all-American, improved her
season average to 18 minutes and 48 seconds. She has been the team's
top finisher in four of five races this season. Davie improved her
season won-loss record to 681-17 (.976). Emory, which finished ahead
of 21 other teams, is ranked 17th in the nation.
(Oct. 13) Dorothy Boone recorded her highest
finish of the season at the NCAA pre-national meet in Indiana. The
junior was Emory's No. 3 runner with a time of 24 minutes and two
seconds on the 6,000-plus-meter course that served as a preview
for the NCAA national meet. [By rule, the courses for NCAA post-season
meets are 6,000 meters rather than the 5,000 meters run in most
regular-season meets.] She was the team's No. 4 finisher in each
of the previous three races this season. Boone finished 10th out
of 147 runners in a field that included the No. 20 ranked team in
the nation. She improved her season won-loss record to 463-43, good
for a .915 winning percentage. Emory, ranked No. 16 in the nation,
placed second among 16 teams.
(Oct. 6) Emory University freshman Amy
DiBianca won the individual title at the Georgia Collegiate Championships.
She is the second Emory runner, first freshman, ever to win the
state championship. DiBianca was first among 105 non-NCAA Division
I runners with a time of 18 minutes and 25 seconds for the 5,000-meter
course. Her time is the second fastest ever by an Emory runner at
the state meet. The time also is the 14th fastest ever by an Eagle
in any race. DiBianca was one of nine Emory runners to break 20
minutes in the race, a feat never before accomplished in school
history. DiBianca helped Emory, ranked 16th in the nation, win the
state team title for the fourth time in school history and third
time in last four years.
(Sept. 29) Jennifer Cronin led Emory University
to a first-place finish at the Oglethorpe University Cross Country
Invitational. Cronin, running in only her third collegiate race,
finished second out of 75 runners. The freshman’s time of
20 minutes and 10 seconds for the 5,000-meter race was a personal
best by 20 seconds. For the race, Emory had four runners in the
top six, and five in the top ten. Emory University is ranked 16th
in the national coaches poll.
(Sept. 22) Adele Blum helped Emory University
to a second place finish at the Georgia State University Invitational.
Blum finished 34th overall out of 142 runners, including 27 from
NCAA Division I schools. The senior’s time of 20 minutes and
one second, her career best, was a four minute and 30 second improvement
over her time from the same meet last year. Blum placed sixth out
of the Emory runners, the first time in her career she has placed
in the top seven on the team. Emory is ranked 20th in the national
coaches poll.
(Sept. 8) Angela Davie led Emory University
to a victory at the University of the South (Tenn.) Invitational,
finishing third overall out of 117 runners. Davie, an All-American,
was the team’s top finisher for the ninth consecutive race
dating back to last season. The junior’s time of 19 minutes
and eight seconds in the 5000-meter race was a 10-second improvement
on her time in the same race last year. This marked the 10th time
the Eagles have won this meet since 1987. Emory was ranked 23rd
in the final national coaches’ poll last season.
