(March 15) Emory University's Holly Hinz won a national title to help her team equal the best finish in school history at the NCAA championships. Hinz won the 500-yard freestyle event to become the 7th Eagle ever to win an individual national crown at the NCAA women's championships. Her winning time of four minutes and 58.31 seconds was a personal best and the second fastest time in school history. Hinz came into the NCAA meet with the fourth-fastest time in the nation in that event in the regular season. She finished second in the 400-yard individual medley at 4:30.25, the ninth-fastest time in Emory history. Hinz swam a leg on Emory's 800-yard freestyle relay which finished fifth. Hinz earned All-America honors in all three events, increasing her career total to 4. Her performances helped Emory finish second in the team standings, its fifth straight year in the top three at the nationals.

(Feb. 23) Freshman Suzanna Zifkin finished first in the 500-yard freestlye (5:10.73) at the Emory Invitational held this past weekend. Zifkin finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:36.68 seconds. She also competed in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.51) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.87), where she finished third and fourth respectively. The Emory women's team will now prepare for the NCAA Division III national championship in March.

(Feb. 16) Sophomore Kari Schneibel qualified for two events at the NCAA Division III national championships to be held in March. Schneibel finished first in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke with times of 58.76 seconds and 2:05.59 seconds, respectively. Last year (2003), she won the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke at the conference championship. She also swam the lead-off legs of the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays, both of which finished in first place. The Emory women's team also captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship for the twelfth time.

(Feb. 2) Emory University's Hillary Lane, a seven-time All-American, finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and with a time of 24.15 seconds in the dual meet with Georgia Tech. Lane was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in first (3:39.81). She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and second as part of the 200-yard medley relay team with times of 52.98 seconds and 1:51.08 seconds respectively.

(Jan. 26) Emory University's Holly Hinz qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships in two events last weekend. In a tri-meet in Kentucky, Hinz surpassed the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA nationals in the 400-yard individual medley and the provisional standard in the 500-yard freestyle. As a result, Hinz now holds the fastest times in the nation in this season in both events. Her time of four minutes and 31.99 seconds in the 400 IM is No. 1 nationally and bettered her previous qualifying time in the event by two seconds. Her time of 5:06 in the 500 free is five seconds shy of her time in the same event in December, the latter still the fastest in the nation this season. The sophomore is a two-time All-American, including an eighth-place finish in the 400 Im at last season's NCAA championships.

(Jan. 19) Dana Inserra recorded a national qualifying and season-best time in a dual meet against Agnes Scott (Ga.). Inserra won the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 59.13 seconds, the 24th fastest time in the nation this season in NCAA Division III. Inserra also swam a leg on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay.

(Jan. 12) Samantha White of Emory University won two events in a dual meet against a top-10 NCAA Division II school. White won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events against University of Tampa, to conclude a nine-day winter training trip. The sophomore was timed in 5:11.87 in the 500 free and 10:39.10 in the 1,000 free. To date, she has the third-fastest time in the nation this season in the 1,650 freestyle and 15th fastest in the 500 free. Emory narrowly lost the dual meet against a school that finished ninth at the Division II national championships last season.

(Dec. 8) Junior Hillary Lane of Emory University qualified in three events for the NCAA national championships and set a school record at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational. Lane finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with an automatic 'A cut' qualifying time of 52.07 seconds, the fastest time in school history. Lane also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with an 'A cut' qualifying time of 23.79 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history. She finished 14th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.02 that was good enough to qualify for an NCAA "B cut." Lane's performance helped Emory to a fourth-place finish out of 11 teams. She is a seven-time All-American.

(Nov. 17) Freshman Erin Graves of Emory University won the 3-meter diving event against the University of Georgia, ranked third in the nation in NCAA Division I. Graves won the event with a score of 224.84. She was the only Eagle to win an event. Graves also placed third in the 1-meter diving competition.

(Nov. 10) Sophomore Sarah Gardiner of Emory University won the 200-yard backstroke and qualified for the NCAA national meet, helping the Eagles to win the Carnegie Mellon Invitational over two national top-20 teams. Gardiner's first-place time of 2:08.74 in the 200 back and second-place time of 2:09.28 in the 200-yard butterfly are provisional qualifying times for the national championships. Her qualification in those two events was impressive considering the pair of 200-yard races were separated by only two other events. She also placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.62. Last season Gardiner earned All-America honorable mention recognition in two events.

(Nov. 3) Sophomore Holly Hinz of Emory University won two events and achieved two qualifying times for the NCAA national meet, helping the Eagles to their second consecutive victory over an NCAA Division I school. Hinz won the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle events in the dual meet against North Carolina-Wilmington. Her time of 4:34.48 in the 400 IM is an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA national championships and her time of 1:56.08 in the 200 free is a provisional qualifying time for the national meet. Hinz also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle and was a member of Emory's third-place 200-yard medley relay team. Last season Hinz was a two-time All-American.

(Oct. 20) Junior Liz Shields won three events in Emory University's first dual meet of the season against an NCAA Division I school. Shields won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.95, a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA national meet. She also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team. The Eagles defeated Davidson 144.5-96.5. Last season Shields set four school records and was a two-time All American.
