2004
(Nov. 8) Alex Grigalunas scored
the lone goal for Emory University in a 2-1 loss to Carnegie
Mellon University (PA) in a game for the conference championship.
Grigalunas' goal, coming in the 81st minute of the game, was
his first of the season. For the year, the sophomore has one
goal and seven assists for a total of nine points, the highest
total by an Emory defender this season, and sixth on the team.
Grigalunas' seven assists tie him for second in school history
for most assists by a defender. The Eagles finish the regular
season with a record of 12-4-2.
(Nov. 1) Jon Arost scored a pair of
goals in two conference road games that put Emory University
in the driver's seat for the conference title. Arost scored
a goal against Brandeis (Mass.) and the winning goal against
New York. The two goals give him the team scoring lead with
27 points this season on 11 goals and five assists. He has
set a personal high for points in a season and is one goal
shy of his season-best total. Arost has moved into ninth place
on the school's all-time list for career points, 10th place
for career goals and sixth place for career assists.
(Oct. 25) Jacques Edeline scored
two goals to lead Emory University to a 3-2 win over a regional
opponent, Maryville College (Tenn.). Edeline's two goals,
his second and third of the season, both came in the first
half of the game off indirect kicks. With the two scores,
the midfielder set a new personal career high in points scored
with 14 this season, eclipsing the 13 points he amassed in
2002. Edeline has 38 points in his Emory career leaving the
junior two points shy of the school's top 20 in that category.
The Eagles, now 11-2-2, are currently ranked 13th in the nation.
(Oct. 18) Emory University defender
Alex Grigalunas helped the Eagles remain unbeaten in conference
play with his contributions on offense and defense. In two
University Athletic Association games, Grigalunas and teammates
yielded one goal and 12 shots at goal combined in 200 minutes
of play. Grigalunas tied a school record with three assists
in a 3-0 win against Case Western Reserve. This marked the
second time in school history that an Emory player has assisted
on all three of the team's goals. Garth Mueller last accomplished
the feat on October 25th, 1992, also against Case Western.
That was the team's ninth shutout of the season, one more
than it had all of last season..
(Oct. 11) Jon Arost picked up a goal
and an assist to help Emory University to a conference win
against Washington University (Mo.). Arost's eighth goal of
the season tied the game at the end of the first half. His
fifth assist of the year came at the beginning of the second
half to put the Eagles ahead. The senior now has 21 points
this season, good for third on the team. Arost is now sixth
in school history in career assists, 10th in career points,
and tied for 12th in career goals. Emory, ranked 11th in the
nation, is now tied for first place in the UAA.
(Oct. 4) Emory University's Kevin
McCarthy was part of a defense that shut out a nationally
ranked team. McCarthy helped limit the opposition to eight
shots at goal in a 0-0 overtime tie against University of
Chicago, ranked No. 19 in the nation. The shutout was Emory's
eighth of the season, in 10 games, tying its total for last
season when McCarthy and Company set a school record for lowest
goals against average (0.69). Emory has allowed three goals
in 10 games this season compared to 14 goals in 20 games last
season.
(Sept. 27) Emory University's Chad
Chambers had as many points in three games last week as he
did all of last season. The sophomore forward tallied six
goals, including a hat trick, and two assists for 14 points
last week. Chambers scored a hat trick, including the game
winner, in a win against Wisconsin-Whitewater. He had two
goals and an assist in a win against Huntingdon (Ala.), and
one goal and an assist in a win against Piedmont (Ga.), the
latter to avenge a loss in the NCA tournament last season.
As a reserve last season, Chambers amassed five goals and
three assists for 13 points. He has now recorded a point in
the last five games for the Eagles (7-1), ranked No. 10 in
the nation.
(Sept. 20) Chad Chambers of Emory
University scored the team's lone goal in an overtime loss
to Greensboro College (N.C.). The goal was Chambers' third
of the season, placing him one behind the team leader in that
category. With six points in five games, Chambers is on pace
to surpass his 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists) of last season.
The sophomore forward has one game-winning goal to his credit
this season.
(Sept. 13) Emory University's Karl
Dix recorded a seven-point weekend to help the sixth-ranked
Eagles remain unbeaten. Dix scored a true hat trick (three
consecutive goals) in a 4-0 win against University of Mary
Washington (Va.). His performance was the 25th hat trick in
school history and made him the 12th different Eagle to achieve
the feat. Dix now has four goals and three assists for 11
points in four games this season. The junior midfielder had
six goals all of last season when he led the nation in NCAA
Division III with 18 assists.
(Sept. 7) Emory University sweeper
Tyler Gordon was part of the Eagle defense that recorded a
pair of shutouts on opening weekend. Gordon and teammates
yielded 12 shots combined in the two games against Richard
Stockton (N.J.) and Methodist (N.C.). In the latter contest,
Methodist's top two returning goal scorers, who combined for
18 goals last season, were held to zero shots at goal. Emory
ended up winning its own Sonny Carter Classic. Last season,
Gordon helped Emory set a single-season record for lowest
goals against average (0.69).
