(April 25)In the last regular-season
game of her career, Emory University's Christine O'Brien pitched
a shutout against Maryville College (TN). In her first start
in more than a month, the senior struck out five batters in
seven innings of work en route to a 4-0 Eagle victory. O'Brien
has compiled a 6-0 record this season, as well as a 1.26 ERA
and three shutouts. So far in her career, O'Brien has compiled
a 0.90 ERA, on pace for a school record. She has an .853 winning
percentage (58-10) through four years. Her 40 career complete
games and 340 career strikeouts rank second in school history.
(April 18) Emory University's Kathy
Gordon pitched two complete-game victories last week, both
by 2-1 scores. The freshman pitched a total of 14 innings,
striking out eight and yielding one earned run without walking
a batter. Gordon was 12th in the nation in NCAA Division III
in wins and 28th in earned run average in the last NCAA stat
report. The freshman leads her team in ERA, wins, innings
pitched, strikeouts, complete games and shutouts. She has
held opposing hitters to a .169 batting average, putting her
on pace for Emory's single season record.
(April 11) Emory University's Sarah
Morse went 5-for-7 in a doubleheader against Wesleyan College
(GA) last week. In a 1-0 win, Morse drove in the only run
of the game with a double. The sophomore had three doubles,
one run scored and one RBI in the two games. For the season,
Morse is batting .359 and is second on the team in runs scored
with 25 and RBIs with 31.
(April 4) Emory University's Ali
Braverman batted .650 with a .950 slugging percentage and
a .750 on-base percentage in eight games last week. The freshman
second baseman went 13-for-20 with six runs scored, three
RBIs and five walks.
Braverman had three three-hit games, including one against
John Carroll University (OH), in which she was 3-for-3 with
a run, two RBIs, a double, a triple, a walk and a sacrifice.
On the season, Braverman's .476 batting average and .566 on
base percentage lead her team. Her .667 slugging percentage
is second on the team. She has been named conference rookie
of the year by the University Athletic Association.
(March 28) Emory University's Betsy
Bruinsma batted .667 in four games last week. The outfielder
went 2-for-3 in each of the four games of Emory's road trip.
In a game against the University of La Verne (CA), she homered,
scored two runs and had two RBIs. For the week, she had eight
hits, scored four times, drove in four runs and stole two
bases. The sophomore is batting .367 on the season, second
best on the team.
(March 21) Emory University's Emily
Sunshine batted .440 and had a .560 slugging percentage in
the University Athletic Association tournament. In eight games
the junior recorded 11 hits and 11 runs, helping Emory to
a second-place finish in the conference. In the first three
games of the tournament, she went 7-for-8 at the plate, scored
seven runs, hit two doubles, drove in two runs and stole two
bases. On the season, Sunshine leads the team in runs scored
with 22, while her .400 batting average is second on the team.
(March 7) Emory University's Ashley
Tobar struck out 18 batters in two games for the Eagles last
week. In five innings pitched against Wesleyan College (GA),
the freshman earned the win after fanning nine batters, and
yielding three hits and no runs. She pitched six innings of
relief against Ferrum College (VA), earning her second win
of the week as she struck out another nine, while yielding
one run. Tobar's 0.44 ERA on the season leads the team, as
does her 30 strikeouts. In 16 innings pitched on the season,
she has allowed one run on nine hits, none of which have been
for extra bases.
(Feb. 28) Emory University's Jennifer
Harrigan homered twice and knocked in nine runs in four games
last week. In two games against Agnes Scott College (GA),
Harrigan went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored
and eight RBIs. The senior is batting .368 on the season and
leads the team with 10 RBIs.
(Feb. 21) In her collegiate debut,
freshman Kathy Gordon led Emory University to an extra-inning
victory over Piedmont College (GA) in the season opener. Gordon
pitched all eight innings of the game, allowing three hits
and one run. The freshman fanned five batters en route to
her first collegiate victory. She is the first Emory freshman
to start a season opener since Sarah Smith in 2000.
