2004-05
(March 16) Emory University's Samantha
White won a national individual championship and helped her
team to the national team championship. The junior won the
500-yard freestyle event to become the second Eagle ever to
win the event and the eighth to win any event at the NCAA
championships. White was the national runner-up in the 1,650-yard
freestyle and finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. She
became the third Emory swimmer ever to earn All-America honors
in at least three individual events in one meet in consecutive
years. White swam a leg on Emory's first-place 800-yard freestyle
relay, giving the school its first-ever national relay championship.
For the meet, White earned four All-America citations, giving
her nine for her career.
(Jan. 24) Junior Samantha White won
the 1650-yard freestyle event against Transylvania University
(KY). White improved her season best time to 17:24.99, which
automatically qualifies her for the NCAA national championships.
White is the third fastest individual in the nation this season
in the 1650-yard freestyle event. This is the second time
that White has qualified for the nationals this season. White
is only 1.89 seconds away from attaining a dual meet record.
White's contribution helped Emory, ranked first in the nation,
beat Translyvania University 166-123
(Dec.6) Emory University's Hillary
Lane automatically qualified for the NCAA national championships
in two individual events and two relay events. Lane surpassed
the A cut in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, and
she did it in the preliminary and final sessions. She also
swam a leg on the 200- and 400-yard medley relays that automatically
qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships,
and helped the 200-yard free relay qualify provisionally.
The senior broke her own school record in the 100 free and
missed her own school record in the 50 free by four-hundreths
of a second.Based on the latest listing of national top times
compiled by the NCAA, Lane has the second-fastest time in
the nation this season in the 50 and 100 free, and is a member
of the fastest relay in the nation in the 200 free, 200 medley
and 400 medley relays. Lane is a 12-time All-American, three
away from tying the school record.
(Nov. 15) Emory University's Caitlin
Hoey won the 400-yard individual medley and finished third
in the 200-yard butterfly against Savannah College of Art
and Design (GA). Hoey improved her season best time in the

helped Emory, ranked second in the nation, beat Savannah 91-77.

I school and in all three events, she attained a qualifying
standard for the NCAA Division III national championships.
Hinz automatically qualified for the NCAA nationals with her
winning time of 4:33.36 in the 400-yard individual medley.
That time is the second-fastest dual-meet time in school history
behind Hinz's own record set last January. Hinz surpassed
the NCAA provisional qualifying time in winning the 200- and
500-yard freestyle events. Her first-place time in the former
(1:54.04) is a school record in a dual meet and the third
fastest in any meet, shaved or unshaved. The junior's first-place
time in the latter (5:06.37) is the second-fastest dual-meet
time in Emory history. Hinz, a five-time All-American in her
career, is the defending national champion in the 500 freestyle
and the reigning national runner-up in the 400 individual
medley. Emory defeated North Carolina-Wilmington, improving
its season won-loss record to 3-0, two of those wins against
