Joan Reed, Head Athletics Trainer
Reed is the Head Athletic Trainer
at Emory University. Prior to taking over the helm in December
2000, Reed served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Emory
since September 1998.
Before joining the Emory Sports Medicine
Team Reed was employed at HealthSouth, Mariner Sports Medicine and
Pinnacle Sports Medicine, all of which are located in Atlanta.
Reed a native of Steubenville, Ohio,
holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of
Louisville (1990). At Louisville, Reed served as Graduate
Assistant Athletic Trainer. She received a Bachelors of Science
in Athletic Training from Ohio University in 1988.
In conjunction with serving as the
Head Athletics Trainer at Emory, she is an instructor in the
Health, Physical Education, and Dance Department. Reed is
a guest lecturer at Georgia State University in the Graduate
Sports Medicine Program and has been a guest lecturer for
the Emory University Physical Therapy Program.
Reed has presented at the Georgia
Athletic Trainers Association Annual Symposium as well as
the Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association Annual Symposium.
In addition, she worked part time for the United States Soccer
Federation from 1991-2004. Reed served as a volunteer athletic
trainer at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs
in the summer of 1994 as well as the 1996 Summer Olympics
in Atlanta.
She has been a certified member of the
National Athletic Trainers Association since 1988. Reed is a certified
member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and
a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Georgia.
Reed currently resides in Stone Mountain,
Georgia and enjoys running, mountain biking and playing soccer.
