This week we hopped in the bus for Greensboro,
N.C., to play the most difficult course of the year, The Cardinal.
Guilford College is the host of this tournament.
The bus ride up was filled with animal
noises ranging from crows to a teradactyls. Five hours on the bus
leads very mature college students to resort to immature acts.
We survived the bus trip and made it to
the practice round where we watched our No. 2 man, Mike Lebow, shoot
around 100. The week looked pretty grim.
But, somehow after the first round Mike
was two shots off the lead with a 73. After finishing third after
the first day, Jason's dad brought us the greatest gift of all,
a converter for a Playstation 2 so we could play Tiger Woods. The
greatest video game of all time and a nice dinner at The Olive Garden
made for a great night.
Round two didn't start out too well when
Mike hit a house on the second hole and I was six over through six
holes. Mike scraped his way around hitting only seven greens to
shoot 75 and I birdied my next three holes to shoot a respectable
75 after a not-so-wonderful start.
Jason was two under through four holes,
but doubled his fifth and ended up with a 76. Dan Ofman and Chris
Clarke played solid golf to round out our top five and help us finish
fourth overall in the tournament. Fourth is our best finish at this
tournament in many years and puts us in good position for a bid
to the NCAA nationals next spring.
Finally we got back to the bus, where the
fun began again. Animal noises filled the bus and the journey began.
Arby's is where we made Keith proud. Jason spun his cell phone so
we could leave a voice message of animal noises and Jason's tuberculosis
voice. The first road trip of the year was fun, but I think Coach
is wondering what he has gotten himself into.
Timothy Hamm is a junior from Niskayuna,
N.Y.. He would love to answer e-mail
questions from Emory recruits and fans.
