Once again, a week of softball began with
plenty of rain falling on game day against Agnes Scott. But luckily
we were able to get in the games thanks to our handy tarp.
On Thursday, we were scheduled to play
against Louisiana College, but a strange thing happened in Atlanta…
It snowed!! But thanks to Jen's dad, who bought gloves, hand warmers,
and bright yellow bonnet/ear warmers for the entire team, we were
prepared for the cold. Unfortunately, we never got to use them because
the games were pushed to the next day, which turned out to be a
bit nicer (the snow in the outfield had melted).
When we finally got out on the field to
play Louisiana College, for the first time in school history, there
were many ups and downs. We showed a lot of good and promising play
with some mistakes in between, but in the end, we lost both games
to a pretty solid team. The games were a good learning experience
for the team, telling us which areas we need to improve. The competition
we faced on Friday was a lot like what we have seen at the World
Series for the past two years, and win or lose, it was a great opportunity
to face a team of that caliber so early in the season.
On Saturday we began to recover by splitting
with our longtime rival, the Savannah College of Art and Design
Bumblebees. The sun was finally shinning and our fans came out to
enjoy the weather and some softball. Many of the parents came from
all over the country bringing with them their support and edible
goodies--thanks for the homemade gingerbread cookies, Mrs. Wald!
After four games in two days, we really
played as a team on Sunday, finishing up games five and six with
two solid wins. Overall, I am happy that we were able to come back
from our losses and disappointment on Friday and Saturday to play
as a team. It is awesome that we are being challenged now with the
type of competition and pressure we will face at the end of the
season. Our tough schedule will prepare us in our quest to win a
national championship.
