After our weekend off, we had four intense
games against our opponents, LaGrange and SCAD. Fortunately, we
were able to pull out four wins... all by one run each.
We traveled to Savannah for the games against
one of our rivals and the trip was, as always, interesting. We didn't
get to see a ghost tour while we there, but we did have a relaxing
meal at the local steakhouse. All of us were packed into two vans,
and coach followed behind in a Jeep with all of our equipment. Lauren
Carter, our trainer, was privy to a fabulous puppet show on the
ride over, if I do say so myself.
The bugs, as usual, were out in full force
for our games. They especially enjoyed the first base area, and
made a valiant attempt at eating Liz alive. Meanwhile, Sunshine
was busy avoiding the lake that had formed in dead center. It's
trips like these that make us realize how lucky we are to have such
a well-groomed field.
On Tuesday we played two and a half games
against Agnes Scott in what were perhaps the most miserable conditions
of the whole season. The half game was the continuation of a game
from earlier in the season that had been called due to darkness.
We ended up run-ruling them all three games and, in the end, it
was indeed a "great day for some softball."
Not to mention that the outties got to
do a lot of booty-shaking... perhaps they've established a personality
just in time for post-season play? At the next practice, everyone
got to play some ultimate frisbee instead of agilities. Well, almost
everyone. The caged folk are planning some merriment of their own
for after the season, and we'll get to play all the frisbee we want
then!
Last weekend we held a very successful
car wash in order to raise money for our trip to... Brazil. We nixed
Australia due to unexpected costs or, in layman's terms, we're a
little low in the bling bling department.
Overall, though, the team is happy to be
going to a tropical location for winter break. Sarah was highly
effective as our "call girl;" so effective, in fact, that
we had to stop her from bringing over any more business for a while.
We raised almost $500 in four hours! That
evening we went to Mellow Mushroom for a team dinner and to compare
sunburns from the day's work.
As we near the end of our regular season, we continue to work hard
and check the polls compulsively. With six games left, and four
of them in-region, a lot is still up in the air. But if the team
that I know we are shows up, we won't dominate. We'll dono-nate.
