Study, Study, Study. That is definitely
the theme for all the Emory basketball players this week. However,
even with finals lingering over everyone's head, the Emory women's
basketball team went out with a bang, sealing a win against the
University of the South (Tenn.) in its last game before the winter
break.
With a rough loss to Piedmont the week
before in our home gym, we decided that something had to change
because we knew we were much better than the last game proved to
all our fans. We all put our heads together and came up with some
great ideas on how to get more pumped up and off to a better start
in our games.
I think Coach was a little surprised at
the Sewanee game when we asked her to leave before we conquered
the court for a "secret team meeting". This is when we
busted out our secret weapon: Ashley's rap!
No one knew what we were in for when we
asked her to do something to pump us up before the game, but it
worked. With shoutouts to each team member and a hilarious ending
verse, we were pumped up to play Sewanee on our home turf. We were
so psyched that we even changed our pre-game chant to " WHOSE
NEST? EAGLES' NEST! CA CAW!!"
We came out really strong against Sewanee
due to the amazing warmup. We had the usual ups and downs of the
game, letting our leads slip away. But towards the end of the game,
we pulled together as a team and obtained another victory. A much
deserved shoutout should be given to the bench. Everyone was crazy,
supportive and just had fun during the game.
After our last home game of the semester,
all of the girls on the team really buckled down on their studies
as the impending finals grew closer and closer. Coach became more
lenient as far as practice went so we could focus on our tests and
still make time for a little bit of basketball.
With Wednesday rapidly approaching,
the whole team is getting very excited to go home for the holidays
for some much need R&R along with much anticipated quality time
with family and friends. For many of us it will be the first time
home since August!
