Even though it was hard to leave my family
and friends behind before New Year's to come back for practice,
all my apprehensions disappeared when I saw a little brown-haired
Texas girl in a cowboy hat waving frantically at me outside of security
at the airport.
I realized these two weeks could never
be boring with teammates like this. Katie and I waited around in
the airport for both Beths, Ashley, and Sprague and talked to the
people she had made friends with before I arrived.
The first few practices were difficult
but the second night we were here was New Year's Eve so Beth Byron,
Bergie, and I decided to do something fun to celebrate. We went
downtown to the packed Underground Atlanta and counted down to the
New Year as the giant peach dropped.
Because the dorms aren't open yet, we are
staying in our teammates' apartments. Six girls and all our bags
make this apartment pretty crowded and messy. But as tight as the
space may seem, it also gives us a lot of time to spend with each
other. We've spent our time away from the gym napping, watching
TV, movies, and lots of old episodes of "Friends," eating,
and shopping.
Last night, Kelly, Caroline, Bergie, and
I decided to walk over to the Blockbuster to rent a movie. Because
we had been in the apartment for most of the day, we were all going
a little crazy (especially Kelly) and really needed to get outside.
Unfortunately, the trip was longer than
we had planned because we had to set up an account to rent the movie.
Kelly and Caroline got bored. They waited outside and pretended
to go up down stairs and an elevator and lots of other crazy things.
When we finally got back, it was too late to start the movie anyway.
Today we play Johns Hopkins and I think
we are ready for the challenge. We've been practicing hard all week
and I think we've improved a lot from the start of the break, both
individually and as a team.
Even though Johns Hopkins is a good team,
I'm confident we will come together today as a team and start the
New Year off right. Last night when Bergie and I ordered Chinese
for dinner, her fortune cookie said, "All your preparations
will start paying off." Go Eagles!!
