We just got back from our first UAA road
trip of the season. And for half the team, it was their first UAA
road trip ever.
We left Thursday afternoon after classes
to head to the airport. As usual we were a bit late getting going
but I think the coaches have factored that time into our schedule.
Nothing too exciting happened at the airport. But it's nice to be
able to hang out with the men's team and have nothing pressing to
do.
Once on the plane most people took a nap.
But Bergie and I broke in my new DVD player (an Xmas present) and
watched "Airheads" all the way to St. Louis.
The hotel we stayed in was undergoing renovation.
My roomies and I (Caroline and Ashley) had to change rooms twice.
It was okay because by the end they had upgraded us to a nicer room
with bigger beds. Thursday night everyone went straight to bed.
We had an early morning practice that day so the whole team was
wiped out.
Friday we had breakfast and then went to
Wash U to have a shoot around. Nothing too serious. And I just have
to say that Sprague is my hero because no one can hit half-court
shots like her.
Then before you know it, 6 p.m. rolls around
and it's time to play. The first half is not something I want to
remember. But I am so proud of the way the whole team rallied in
the second half. That is the team I love to play with. We had a
LOT of fans and parents at the game so I would love to thank them
for their support.
Saturday we left for Chicago. Because no
trip is without an airplane mishap they, of course, lost half of
our luggage. So we had some hygiene issues after practice later
that day. But luckily the luggage was found and delivered that night
to the hotel so order was restored.
Sunday we arrived early at the gym to support
our men's team. Then it was time for us. We had some great moments
as a team on the court. And I think everyone contributed in some
way. I know we can beat Chicago and when they come to our house
it will be a whole new game.
The flight home is always interesting.
You take 12 girls with pent up energy and then stick them in an
enclosed space and make them sit still for two hours. Some crazy
things can happen. Well, that was our weekend on the road. Some
great memories are always made. And I have to admit this team knows
how to have fun.
Stephanie Holland is a sophomore from
Potomac, Md. She would love to answer e-mail
questions from Emory recruits and fans.
