It's tough to write a creative or
entertaining journal entry after suffering a loss like we
did Sunday.
We came out playing very well, scoring
the first nine points of the game. Brandeis immediately called
a timeout. In the huddle, Coach Zuver told us not to relax
and that we should not be comfortable with a nine-point lead.
Even though he warned us of becoming
complacent, it still happened. For the rest of the half, we
were outhustled and outworked and took a 10-point deficit
into halftime.
Even though we were down 10, we knew we would be able to put
ourselves back in the game if we played hard and focused on
stopping them on defense. We played much better in the second
half, cutting the deficit and eventually taking a lead with
a few minutes left in the game. It's tough to win every close
game, and sadly, we were on the losing end of this one.
We understand that we can't dwell
on this tough loss because we play Oglethorpe on Tuesday at
their gym. This is sure to be another fast-paced and exciting
game. Any rivalry among teams living 15 minutes away from
each other is sure to be competitive and intense.
We are in the middle of a 10 day stretch where we play five
games. Some guys are really banged up and it is tough to recover
from these minor injuries during this kind of stretch. Dealing
with the bumps and bruises of playing every day is something
that separates great players from the good players.
