April 11, 2005
After a long stretch of a whole bunch
of games, last week was a little quieter. Coach gave us Monday
off from practice, in order to rest our bodies and recuperate
a little bit. I know a lot of us also used the time off to
catch up with all of the schoolwork that got put aside from
the week before!
On Tuesday, we were back on the field
and ready to practice. Agilities and conditioning were difficult
for everyone on Tuesday (not just for Braverman!) because
of the incredibly high pollen count that is pretty normal
for this time of year.
The accumulated rain puddles from
Monday night on the field were covered with a coat of yellow
pollen. Just looking at it made it hard to breathe! Aside
from the pollen, it's great to be having such nice weather.
It sure beats the crazy 40-degree weather of April back in
Chicago!
On Friday, it was back to the games.
We made the journey to Macon, Georgia, to take on Wesleyan
(Ga.). Luckily, the rains held off, for the most part, and
we were able to get in two games and two victories.
However, the early morning rain made
the field pretty swampy for our later afternoon games, if
I do say so myself! We outfielders were in fact told to watch
out for the swimming pool in deep centerfield! Thankfully,
we had two amazing pitching performances by Tobar and Gordo,
who pitched a one-hitter (nearly a perfect game!) and a no-hitter
respectively.
After the games we piled into the
vans and headed to Fuddruckers for dinner. It was a nice change
of scenery from good old Wendy's, which we all appreciated!
Then, it was back to campus.
Despite Coach giving us the weekend
off from softball, most of the team went camping together
at a local campsite. I hear there was a lot of s'more making,
canoe races, owl hunting (?!), and hiking.
Godby, I hope you had a great 19th
birthday in the outdoors and enjoyed your cake that Summa
made you--thanks for sharing it, unlike Ash. Hah, hah!
So far this season, our team has
really come together and we have had a lot of great wins--with
a lot more to come! Frankly I can't believe the season has
gone by so quickly! However, we still have six more games
to take care of and then, of course, the post-season.
