Last week, we opened by traveling
to LaGrange for a double header. We began the day with a run
in the first inning, and scored again in the sixth to clinch
a 2-1 victory. Between games, LaGrange celebrated their senior
day, and, unfortunately for us, came back fired up to win
their last home game. We suffered a devastating 4-3 loss.
But if any good can be found in the
loss, it is that we learned a lot about ourselves as a team.
We had two of our best and most intense practices of the season
on Thursday and Friday in preparation for our games against
Savannah. It paid off. We left Savannah with two more wins
on the board. Despite the obnoxious fans and heavy bats that
greeted us, we came away with 2-1 and 4-1 victories.
Actually getting to play the games
wasn't as easy. We went through our usual pre-game warmup,
but it took nearly two hours and a second warmup for the umpires
to arrive. But, as usual, we were able to entertain ourselves
in the meantime. Between Momma Leave's food and our "pattern"
games, we had no trouble enjoying ourselves while waiting.
And all the extra batting practice paid off for Jen and Sarah,
who each had a home run on the day (and Sarah, you had two
in my book!)
We have a week of practice coming
up in preparation for the final games of our regular season.
We travel to Maryville, Tenn., this weekend for a double header.
Hopefully, with a week of hard work, we can end the season
on a high note, or even better, not end the season for awhile!
Kate Thomas is a sophomore from
Murfreesboro, Tenn. She would love to answer e-mail
questions from Emory recruits and fans.
