Study, study, study, has been the
theme for the Emory women's basketball team. With finals occupying
our minds for the past two weeks, practice, school and life
have all been a little crazy.
After dropping our first three games
to very respectable opponents, we managed to pull off two
big wins at home. First a victory over LaGrange and then a
down-to-the-wire win over Oglethorpe University.
The Oglethorpe game showed how much
character our team really has and how hard we've worked since
the opening games. Coming back from an 11-point deficit in
the second half, we truly played as a team and pulled off
the win. It was very rewarding to see the whole team come
together and have everyone contribute.
Last week we headed off to Sewanee
to play the University of the South. With exams over our heads
and school on our minds, we just came out soft and ended up
being down by nine at half. We started to pick it up and played
Sewanee even for a while, even pulling ahead at times. Unfortunately
in the end we were not able to finish and ended up losing
by 10 or so.
I think we were all disappointed
with the loss, especially coming off the past two victories.
We did learn about the particular aspects of our team game
that needed improving, especially unforced turnovers and not
allowing offensive rebounds. The rest of the week in practice,
intensity really picked up and everyone worked hard to improve
the areas in which we struggled.
It's now that time when everyone
is finishing up exams and heading home for a few weeks to
get some much needed rest and relaxation with friends and
family before we come back and kick off our conference schedule.
The whole team is excited to get after it in the New Year
and really compete in the UAA this season.
Beth Bergmann is a sophomore from
Oconomowoc, Wis . She would love to answer e-mail
questions from Emory recruits and fans.
