After spending the last three weeks
with only my teammates, I have to say that we have one of
the craziest and most fun teams I have ever been a part of.
We came back to Atlanta for practice right after Christmas
and while the first few practices were quite a struggle, we
eventually got back into the rhythm of basketball.
But it's not the practices or even
the games that I'll remember about this break. We've spent
the last three weeks living together, eating together and
hanging out together. Four of the upperclassmen opened up
their apartments to everyone living on campus and we settled
in quickly to the new living situations. Katie A. and Ashley
made a fort in Bergie's living room, Beth made Rizzo sleep
on Lynn's couch, Sprague learned to live with Mac's dog biting
her, and Steffi and I got used to Steph's crazy cats.
Steffi, Steph H and I spent most
of our break lying on the couch watching TV and eating whatever
was in sight, but we all spent a lot of time bonding with
the whole team. We had a "Saved by the Bell" night
with Bergie's famous spinach artichoke dip, started an interesting
new winter break tradition one night at Lynn's, went shopping
countless times, went out to a lot dinners, and watched a
few movies.
Thankfully for our sanity, we spent
two weekends on the road, one in Cleveland and the other in
Chicago and St. Louis. In Cleveland, my hometown, we went
to my house for some of my mom's home cooking and plenty of
dessert for our cookie-loving team. The next weekend, after
a long delay in the Atlanta airport due to some crazy weather,
we had a great dinner in Chicago thanks to Steffi's mom.
Although the game against University
of Chicago didn't go our way, we played a great game and fought
until the end. We left Saturday morning to drive down to St.
Louis for our game on Sunday against Wash U. The bus ride
wasn't too interesting although watching Rizzo try to climb
over the back wall into the trunk to get some cookies out
of her bag for Coach T and the rest of the team was pretty
entertaining.
We finished the game Sunday disappointed
in the result but proud that again we never stopped fighting.
We've gotten so much better as team and individually over
the last three weeks. Despite a tough conference season, I'm
confident we'll be able to challenge some of the top teams
in the country in the coming weeks.
We start classes again this Wednesday
and the other students are all coming back now. Although I'm
grateful to see all my other friends again, I'll miss the
three crazy weeks we spent together as a team.
