We arrived in Rochester on Thursday
afternoon right in the middle of a "heat wave".
Yup, we got to leave our 60-degree weather to bask in the
beautiful 33-degree weather that the city of Rochester was
currently enjoying.
After unpacking and settling in for
a little bit, we then headed out to Olive Garden, where Mackenzie's
uncle joined us for some delicious Italian food. We made sure
to keep Katie A. away from the breadsticks this year, because
we found out from last year that eating almost a dozen breadsticks
the night before a game tends to make one sick. That night,
we all slept in anticipation for our second matchup in one
week against the University of Rochester.
Friday, we stayed pretty low key, as we had to save up all
our energy for the game. Once 6 p.m. came, we were all very
excited to get out there and start playing the team that had
just beat us on our home court.
The game started off great, we came
out pretty pumped up. We went into the locker room only down
by a couple points at halftime. But, sadly, things just didn't
go our way the second half, and Rochester ended up pulling
away by enough, so that we could not catch up.
We were really heartbroken after
the loss. I mean, it's hard to get beat by a team once, but
two times in six days??? Instead of upsetting ourselves even
more, though, we spent some quality time in the locker room
after the game, deciding what we need to do to improve and
getting ready for our next game in Pittsburgh.
We got up bright and early Saturday morning to make the four-hour
bus trek from Rochester to Pittsburgh. Soon, after arriving,
we finally got to our rooms (after the 25-minute elevator
ride!!), unloaded our stuff, and then headed back out for
lunch and practice.
Practice was a huge success, as everyone
put forth 100 percent effort in getting ready for the Carnegie
game. Then, after some interesting conversations at dinner
and in a hallway of the hotel, we all went to bed, ready for
our next win.
We entered the gym on Sunday, watched
the end of the men's game, and then started getting ready
for our own. The game started off well. After two quick three-pointers
from Carnegie's offense, we battled back to go on a 27-2 run.
The rest of the first half was ours, dominated by our amazing
effort on defense.
The second half was still ours on
defense, and even though our offense slipped a little, we
ended up coming out with a win! This game, the posts really
made an effort on the boards, each of us trying to win the
contest created by Coach Ciccone. He made a deal with us that
whomever got the most rebounds/minute would get an ice cream
dessert after the game. Steph ended up winning, but we all
put up a good fight, and none of the rest of us were upset,
as we had just pulled out a win....together.
