After a long and anxious wait to get our bid to the NCAA Championship last April we were able to take a nice little sigh of relief. That moment of relief lasted about a second. We then returned to our madness of scrambling to finish our final exams before the scheduled exam period so we could go to Orlando and still pass our classes. Welcome to DIII athletics!
Well, only a couple of us succeeded in our efforts; I had to make up a final in the middle of May and… never mind. But regardless, we made it to Orlando and after two days of rest and practice we got off to a great start leading the 2005 National Championship after 27 holes. Then we dropped to 2nd… then 4th… then 8th. I guess it was only appropriate for our season of mediocrity to be capped by a mediocre finish. Time to move on!
As we returned to Atlanta this fall with high ambitions and a fresh attitude we welcomed a large recruiting class of eager, anxious and extremely talented freshmen. Tryouts are underway and it is becoming apparent how difficult it will be to choose this year’s team. With a talented and experienced core, including two returning All-Americans, a couple experienced seniors, and the help of some new and dedicated talent, Emory Golf is bound to have a break-through year.
Next year… we’re bringing home some hardware.
