October 18, 2005
The running theme for this team,
this year, has been to ask more of ourselves. We want to play
every game better than the last.
This weekend was a testament to this team. Despite a hic-up
in Chicago, having shutout NYU and Brandeis by a cumulative
goal differential of 11-0, we are back on track. After the
loss to Chicago on the road, the team returned with a renewed
focus and concentration. Practice leading up to NYU on Friday
could only be characterized by an intensity that reflected
a stoic resolve to make a firm statement—we can play.
To realize how much this year’s group of guys is a team,
we need only look at this weekend’s statistics. This
past weekend eight different players contributed to our 11
goals, either via assist or scoring. Between bright performances
by our freshmen and upper-class leadership on and off the
pitch, our team has unified.
This coming week brings two out-of-conference games, LaGrange
and Piedmont. It is a crucial point in our season. With only
five games left in the season, winning these two games is
essential, heading into our final three UAA games. Coach and
D will be sure to have us focused and prepared, one game at
a time.
But, in the end, it’s business as usual. And we intend
to take care of it.
