April 2, 2006 - Entry 2

What a busy weekend it has been!  On Saturday we picked up two wins over LaGrange and on Sunday we split with Piedmont.  Sunday was also Senior Day where we honored our one and only Sunshine with a ceremony between the games.

Even though there are many things that stand out about our three wins this weekend what I think is most notable is the way our defense performed.  Each day we saw tremendous pitching performances from Kat, Tobar and Leaves.  Those three sophomores have come so far this season and they are taking ownership of the mound.

The domination by the pitchers has been backed up by a very solid defense.  Betsy, Sunshine and Moler all made terrific grabs in the outfield including diving catches in clutch situations.  The infield had our fair share of golden glove plays with Cassi’s diving stop followed by a flip to Haag at two for the force and Haag (who, by the way, toughed out the weekend on a sprained ankle) going deep in the 5-6 hole to grab a grounder and make a great throw to first to record the out.

All weekend long we had terrific crowds at our games!  Thank you to everyone who came out!  We know that a large part of that group was family and friends and we appreciate your continual support.

The Sunshine clan made up their own cheering section as many came to support Emily on her Senior Day.  Although speeches and presents are in no way sufficient to tell Sunshine how much we love her and are going to miss her, Senior Day is a wonderful way of recognizing the four years of hard work and dedication she has given to Emory Softball.  Sunshine is the core of this team and we are going to miss her so much!

With that said, however, there is still a lot of season left to be played.  We are committed to finishing out the season strong and earning a bid to post-season to get Sunshine back to where she started.
