April 24, 2006 - Entry 5
What can I say? It was definitely a challenging weekend. After four great in-region wins last week, we faced SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) on Saturday, an out of region NAIA team. Luckily, we tarped the field on Friday night due to thunderstorms and were able to get the games in thanks to our coaches and our wonderful field crew.
After an hour and a half delay of the games, similar to last year, we finally got started. It’s funny how delayed games are becoming a kind of tradition with SCAD.
Facing a much improved SCAD team from last year, we lost the first game 7-1 and the second 5-3. Despite these losses, there were many positive things to take away from the games (especially Kerns’ birthday cake brought by Cassi’s mom).
We stayed toe-to-toe with one of the best teams we have faced this season. It was truly a challenge for us both offensively and defensively. The games gave us a chance to see what we need to improve on and helped us realize where we need to work more. Although a bit of an upsetting weekend, it was a great opportunity to see what regionals will be like. A team plays better when facing better competition, and I think we truly stepped up the challenge. We adjusted to their pitching well and improved defensively as the day went on.
I think every girl in our lineup, 1-9, had a good touch on the ball, and unfortunately for us, it seemed that none of our hits would fall and all of theirs did. But we definitely stepped up our game and are now more prepared to face Piedmont on Tuesday in our last games of the regular season. We know that Tuesday is an important day, and we can’t wait to get out there and bring home a bid to regionals!
