It’s back to Atlanta for the women’s basketball team…even though it was only the day after Christmas.
Even though it’s tough to leave family members and friends behind after having such a short break (in Mac’s case, barely three days), but it’s always great to come back to my favorite group of girls. We started out on the 27th with two practices which is always a shock to everyone’s body. But this year we didn’t have time to be sore because we had our first game back against UW at Oshkosh on the 29th.
The game against Oshkosh, as predicted, was a tough battle. We stayed with them for most of the game but towards the end gave them a nice lead. However, the game isn’t over until it’s over and in an amazing last second play, we had a great rebound by Lynn, outleted to Erica, dished to Rizzo who shot the game winning shot! So basically Rizzo is my hero and we pretty much all worship her after that game. We even had a preemptive dog pile on Rizzo before the game was actually over. Whatever, I know I heard a buzzer…
So after we came down off of that high, we started preparing for Maryville. Ash had a great time in practice being one of their players while we went through their plays and even got a little defensive when coach tried to let someone else pretend to be her. But all the two-a-days (which has been everyday but one…eh hem) paid off and we came out on top once again due to great defense and a whole bunch of O-boards down the stretch. And even though we have a big game against JHU on Wednesday, we had something even more wonderful to look forward to…our first day off.
Having a day off, we knew what we were going to work on in practice on Monday and we knew it would be pretty physical. This week though is going to be pretty big for us seeing as we play JHU on Wednesday and then our first conference game against Case on Saturday. I know I speak for the team when I say we all hope this hard work is going to pay off as we face some tough opponents in the near future.
