February 28, 2006
We are just now finishing up our indoor season. This Thursday we will leave for the UAA conference meet at the University of Chicago. As a freshman I am really nervous, but also very excited to compete at the conference level. It will be nice to run with other Division III schools for a change!
For the last month and a half we’ve been traveling mostly to Tennessee for meets with bigger Division I schools and we’ve gotten a chance to challenge ourselves against some amazing athletes. Everyone has been performing well and it’s great to see our runners and field event athletes holding their own with the DI schools.
Sometimes the meets can be really hectic with everyone running, throwing, vaulting, and jumping all over the place but at the one meet at Tennessee State University everyone was able to cheer the runners on as they ran past. The team dynamic was awesome and everyone did really well.
For training we’ve been struggling with a bit of February rain but compared to the weather I was used in Maine, we’ve been lucky to be outside at all! We are eagerly anticipating starting the outdoor season also because we will be hosting three meets and I think everyone is ready to compete on a full size track.
Thus far, the season has been awesome and I’m looking forward to a great conference meet. Hopefully we can work on bringing a conference championship back to Emory!
