The Emory University women’s basketball team begins the second half of University Athletic Association play this weekend with a pair of tough road contests.
(Mar. 2) - Senior Lora Turner, playing in her final collegiate game, totaled a career-high 29 points in leading the Eagles to a 74-59 win over Case Western Reserve University.
Turner scored 19 points in the second half in helping Emory to a decisive 50-37 scoring edge over the visitors. She hit eight-of-nine from the floor and three-of-four the foul over the final 20 minutes of action in helping the Eagles shoot 51.5 percent from the floor in the half. For the game, she sank 13-of-17 from the field in registering her 23rd double-figure scoring contest of the year and 10th of 20 or more points. Turner also grabbed seven rebounds, second high on the team, and recorded three steals.
She ended the season by either leading or sharing for team scoring honors in 18 contests while claiming that distinction in rebounding in 12 outings. Turner finished 2008-09 with 419 total points, fourth on the school’s seasonal ladder, as well as posting a school record 59.5 percent mark from the floor (174-of-292).
Chantal Christian is a freshman at Emory University and has completed her first year as a member of the women's basketball program.
Chantal concluded the 2008-09 season by appearing as a reserve in 10 games. She scored in four contests and sank a three-point field goal against Piedmont College.
Prior to her arrival at Emory, Christian was a four-year member of the varsity basketball program at Maret High School (MD). She served as a co-captain on the 2006-07 and 2007-08 teams and was a two-time member of the All-Independent School League Team.
