Prospective Emory student-athletes receive
the same consideration for admission as other students. Emory seeks
to admit students with strong academic backgrounds, who are likely
to succeed at the university. Emory strives for an incoming freshman
class that is diverse in geographic and ethnic representation.
The average Emory freshman had a 3.80 cumulative
grade point average (unweighted) in high school. The score range
of the middle 50 percent of a freshman class is 1300 to 1470 on
the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and 29 to 33 on the American
College Test (ACT).
Another factor that affects your chances
for acceptance at Emory is the quality of your high school curriculum.
We encourage high school students to take as many college preparatory
and advanced classes as possible. We also evaluate your application
based on participation in activities outside the classroom, your
written admission essay, and a required letter of recommendation
from your high school guidance counselor.
To apply, write or call the Office of Admission
(1-800-727-6036) to request an application. Emory also accepts the
Common Application. The application must be returned with a $50
application fee (or a fee waiver from the College Board) by November
1 for Early Decision I, January 1 for Early Decision II or January
15 for Regular Decision.
The Office of Admission is happy to arrange
for you to visit the campus. If you prefer, they can arrange for
you to visit a class or stay overnight in a residence hall. Please
call two weeks in advance to arrange for a campus visit.
If you are unable to visit the campus,
you can still get a feel for the University by viewing Emory's Video
Visit from Videc Communications. To order a free video or
DVD about Emory, call 800-255-0384 or 615-790-7313. You will
be able to view a 20-minute presentation about Emory University
free of charge, and you may keep the tape for 12 days. Many people
have commented that the video helped them to decide to come see
Emory firsthand.
