Financial Aid

Emory University seeks to provide financial assistance for those who might not be able to afford the full cost of an Emory education. The university awards money to admitted student-athletes on the basis of financial need and/or academic merit.

Academic scholarships are available through the Emory Scholars Program. These scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of merit. These scholarships are renewed each year provided that you maintain the required standard of academic excellence.

Merit-based scholarships are awarded to those who have applied by November 1 for admission to Emory. To be considered, you must be nominated by your high school principal or guidance counselor. Nomination forms are available in most high school guidance offices by late September.

In addition to accepting a merit-based scholarship, you may apply for financial aid.

Your need-based financial aid eligibility is calculated as the difference between the cost of education at Emory and your expected family contribution. The expected family contribution is based on federal and institutional formulas.

To be considered for aid, you must complete both the College Scholarship Service PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1. In addition, you need to submit copies of parent and student tax returns by March 1.

Once your eligibility is determined, Emory will meet as much of your need as possible with financial aid from federal, state, and university sources. An aid award typically consists of a combination of an educational loan, a work-study job and a grant. Most students who qualify for financial aid receive a combination of these three types of aid.

Approximately 60 percent of Emory College students receive financial assistance, totaling more than $67 million.
