Michael Huey, MD-Team Physician

Dr. Huey is the Executive Director of Emory University Student Health and Counseling Services and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.

Huey was Director of Student Health Services and Associate Team Physician at California State University, Bakersfield from 1991-1994. From 1994-2002, he was Director of Student Health Care Center and Associate Clinical Professor of Community Health and Family Practice at the University of Florida. While at Florida, he was also one of the Team Physicians for the Florida Gator Athletics Program.

Huey is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice with a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Huey graduated summa cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences. Huey earned his Medical Degree from UCLA School of Medicine, and completed his Family Practice Residency at Ventura County Medical Center (California).

John "X" Xerogeanes, MD - Chief of Sports Medicine

John Xerogeanes, M.D., or Dr. "X" as known by his staff and patients, is Chief of Sports Medicine at the Emory Orthopaedic and Spine Center. Also adding to his list of titles is Head Orthopaedist and Team Physician for Georgia Tech, Emory University and Agnes Scott College. Along with Dr. Xerogeanes' association with college level athletes, he also cares for many professional, high school and recreational athletes. His former team physician affiliations include: The University of Pittsburgh Intercollegiate Athletics, Denver Broncos, United States Ski Team, Pennsylvania State Boxing Commission and Woodland Hills High School (Pittsburgh, PA).

After earning his undergraduate degree in Bio Chemistry from the University of California Davis and his medical degree from Emory University, Dr. Xerogeanes went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He then moved to Vail, Colorado where he did a fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic specializing in Sports Medicine/Knee and Shoulder Surgery.

As a member of a number of professional societies and organizations, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthoopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Xerogeanes has contributed to many textbooks and has received numerous research awards. His research has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Journal of Trauma and Annals of Biomedical Engineering. In addition to his many publications, he has been a visiting lecturer at numerous institutions throughout various regions including North America South America, Asia and Africa. Dr. Xerogeanes has also been featured on CNN, ESPN and network television

Lee Golusinski, MD

Golusinski earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry withBiological Specialization from Duke in 1985. He completed a residency in Family Practice at Duke University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. After residency, Dr. Golusinski did a 2-year fellowship in Sports Medicine at Duke. He moved to Atlanta in 1994 and was on the faculty at Emory until 2001 at which time he decided to go into private practice and open his own office; Intown Family Practice & Sports Medicine, PC. Golusinski is board certified in both Family Practice and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Golusinski has served as Team Physician for Emory University Varsity Athletics since 1995. Golusinski has served as an Associate Team Physician for the United States Soccer Federation, worked in the Olympic Village Polyclinic during the 1996 Olympics, served as a physician at first aid stations for two years at Turner Field, Home of the Atlanta Braves. Also, since 1995 he has been a competitive Masters Swimmer as well as a member of United States Masters Swimming.

Ken Mautner, M.D. – Team Physician

Dr. Mautner came to Emory in 2004, after completing his Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. While there, he served as Team Physician for Samford University in Birmingham, AL. He majored in biology and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He took a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Emory University School of Medicine, before completing his Fellowship in Sports Medicine.

He was selected as Resident of the Year in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program in 2002-2003, and served as Chief Resident the same year.

Dr. Mautner is active in such professional organizations as the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the International Spinal Injection Society.

Dr. Mautner enjoys seeing a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries and has a special interest in sports related spine injuries. He currently serves as head team physician for Agnes Scott College and a team physician for Emory University Athletics.
