Name: Tom Lesnick
Favorite Food: Chicken Salad Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries and Sweet Tea
Favorite Movie: Forrest Gump
Favorite Television Show: 24
Favorite Musical Artist: Dave Matthews Band
A word to describe me while I am competing: Aggressive… and then hold on for dear life
A word to describe me away from the pool: Gentlemanly
My most memorable athletic moment was: Taking the podium at Junior Nationals
My most memorable Emory athletic moment: Taking the podium at University Athletic Association Championships
What I like most about Emory: Unlike a lot of Division I schools, I can swim but also have a life outside of swimming. It is also much easier to find a balance between swimming and academics.
I would like to switch places for the day with: My dad when they he was my age.
My favorite place on the Emory campus: The café in the Carlos Museum… best lunch on campus.
Favorite pro athlete: Lenny Krayzelburg
The sports teams I followed when I was younger: Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins
My favorite class at Emory and why: The Chemistry of Wine was my freshmen seminar. It was just a lot of fun while learning a lot about wine. I just thought it was a unique class.
The people who have helped me most at Emory are and why: Jon Howell, my head coach, has helped me a lot in planning everything for swimming, but has also helped me in terms of academic advising and he’s just easy to talk to.
Any pre-meet rituals: I do the same stretch routine while waiting behind the blocks every time.
The sport I would be playing if I were not on the swimming & diving team:
Crew. I was actually recruited for that sport as well because I rowed in high school.
If I could have dinner with only three people in history, they would be: Robin Williams, Thomas Jefferson, and Mark Spitz
The best advice I have ever been given and who gave it to you: “4 years from now, unless you make the Olympics, you probably won’t be making a living off of swimming, so have fun doing it now.” – My dad giving me advice on whether to go to a Division I or Division III school for swimming in college.
What is something that very few, if any, people know about you: I used to be a professional snare drummer in the Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drum Corps.
Tom is a sophomore from Williamsburg, VA. He would love to answer e-mail
questions from Emory recruits and fans.
