GETTING TO KNOW STAN TOLKACHJOV …

Name: Stan Tolkachov

Favorite Food: That’s easy… Willy’s and Steak

Favorite Movie: American Psycho

Favorite Television Show: Saved By the Bell (The College Years)

Favorite Musical Artist: George Strait or anything 80’s

A word to describe me when I am competing: Intense

A word to describe me away from the athletic venue: Loyal

My most memorable athletic moment was: Meeting Division I coaches and football players on football recruiting visits and having the opportunity to choose where I wanted to go and what sport to play. Also, catching a diving interception in front of eight-thousand people and college scouts against our rival team is a very memorable moment.

My most memorable Emory athletic moment: Feeling the pain of all runners when I ran the 4 by 400 relay during the inter-squad meet. It was the worst cramping I have ever had and everyone cheered because they felt the pain.

What I like most about Emory: Emory is a place where you have the opportunity to be as great as you can. Whether it is competing against DI athletes at huge meets or winning smaller ones, you have your dreams within your reach. The same goes for the academic perspective, where we learn to manage time and succeed at all aspects of life.

I would like to switch places for the day with: Kevin Federline (just joking)… maybe Elvis

My favorite place on the Emory campus: The old Cox outside benches so I can watch people walk by and have some fun with it

Favorite athlete: Shaquille O’Neal

The sports teams I followed when I was younger: LA Lakers, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Braves

My favorite class at Emory and why: Psych 323 Drugs and Behavior… It’s a very entertaining class with an enthusiastic professor and many relevant topics to the real world.

The people who have helped me most at Emory are and why: My friends have been there for me during all my ups, downs, trials, successes, and just those times when you want to do absolutely nothing but lay on the couch and talk.

Any pre-meet/competition rituals:  I always listen to the Rocky Soundtrack, Bloodsport Soundtrack, and Journey on my IPOD.  Also, wearing the tights allows me to have fun with my teammates as they joke around about my spandex (Stan-dex) ritual.

The sport I would be playing if I wasn’t running/on the track and field team: Definitely football

If I could have dinner with only three people in history, they would be: Rasputin, Alexander the Great, Hugh Heffner (that’s more for the entertainment value)

Ten years from now I see myself: Working in the South or a beach town doing plastic surgery with a happy and loving family

The best advice I have ever been given and who gave it to you: “No matter what happens, you should always stand up tall, walk like a man, keep your chin up, and be above any situation” – My grandfather

What is something that very few, if any, people know about you: I used to be a good artist and attended an art institute at the age of 7, but I gave it up a long time ago.

Stan is a senior from Collierville, TN. He would love to answer e-mail questions from Emory recruits and fans.
