(Dec. 15) Emory University
received three honors in the 2004 Golden Shoestring Awards
presented by Southregionrunning.com.
Kile Krol and Rob Leventhal were awarded Fifth Runner of the
Year, John Curtin and Kevin Graham received the Coaching Staff
of the Year award, and Bryan Forsyth was named to the All-Freshmen
Second Team.
This is the third consecutive year the Eagles' coaching staff
has received a Golden Shoestring Award.
(Nov. 20) Emory University finished
21st out of 24 teams at the NCAA Division III national championships.
This is the team's sixth consecutive appearance in the national
meet and its second-best finish since 1992.
The team was led by senior Andrew Podgurski, who finished
96th out of 215 runners with a time of 25 minutes and 57 seconds.
Podgurski was followed by senior Owen Farcy in 109th place
with a career-best time of 26:04. Farcy finished 73 spots
higher this season than he did at last season's national meet.
Sophomore Kile Krol ran a career-best time of 26:28 to finish
in 137th place. This time is 1 minute and 20 seconds faster
than his NCAA pre-national time on the same course earlier
this season.
Senior Jonathan High in 158th place and freshman Bryan Forsyth
in 189th place rounded out the top five for the Eagles.
(Nov. 13) Emory University won the
NCAA Division III Regional Championship for the sixth consecutive
year. The Eagles finished first out of 20 teams.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the NCAA Division III
National Championships Saturday in Colfax, WI. Last season
Emory finished 16th at the national meet, the team's best
finish since 1986.
Five runners earned all-region honors for the Eagles. This
is the sixth consecutive year Emory has had at least five
all-region runners.
The team was led by Andrew Podgurski, who finished third out
of 143 runners with a time of 26 minutes and 55 seconds. He
earned all-region honors for the fourth time, becoming the
fifth Eagle runner to earn all-region honors all four years.
Podgurski was followed by Owen Farcy in fourth place with
a time of 26:57. This is Farcy's second consecutive all-region
honor. Jonathan High earned his first all-region honor, finishing
seventh with a time of 27:07.
Other all-region performers for the Eagles were Kile Krol
in 12th place and Rob Leventhal in 18th place. Leventhal's
time of 27:38 is more than two and a half minutes faster than
his time at this meet last year.
The split between the first and fifth runners for the Eagles
was a season-low 43 seconds. This is the lowest split for
the team since September 7, 2002.
(Oct. 30) Emory University finished
sixth out of eight teams at the University Athletic Association
championships.
The team was led by senior Andrew Podgurski, who finished
13th out of 75 runners with a time of 27 minutes and 1 second.
He earned All-UAA second-team honors for the second consecutive
year.
Senior Jonathan High finished second for the Eagles and 23rd
overall. This is the first season High has been in the top
ten for the Eagles in every race, giving him the opportunity
to run in his first conference championship.
Kile Krol was 27th and Owen Farcy finished 28th. Both Krol
and Farcy's times were nearly a minute faster than their times
at the conference meet last season. The two also jumped more
than 40 spots in the individual standings after finishing
71st and 72nd, respectively, at last season's conference meet.
Emory will return to action November 13 at the NCAA South
Region Championships. The Eagles have won five consecutive
regional championships.
(Oct. 23) Emory University finished
first out of five teams at the Oglethorpe University Fall
Classic.
Evan Goldberg won the meet, finishing with a time of 27 minutes
and 53 seconds. Other top-five performers for the Eagles were
Samuel Carmichael in third with a time of 28:20 and Andrew
Swerlick in fourth with a time of 28:34.
This is the first meet this season in which the Eagles have
won both the individual and team titles. The top runners for
Emory had the week off to prepare for the UAA Championships
on October 30.
(Oct. 16) Emory University finished
fifth out of 12 teams at the Winthrop Inviational, losing
only to NCAA Division I teams and beating six Division I and
Division II schools.
The team was led by Andrew Podgurski, who finished sixth out
of 105 runners in the 6,000-meter race. Podgurski has been
the top Eagle runner in every meet this season.
He was followed by Owen Farcy in 17th place, Jonathan High
in 24th place, Kile Krol in 30th place, and Rob Leventhal
in 37th place.
The Eagles return to action October 30 for the UAA Championships.
(Oct. 9) Emory University finished
sixth out of 26 teams at the Furman Invitational, beating
15 NCAA Division I and II schools.
The team was led by Andrew Podgurski, who finished 20th out
of 242 runners with a time of 26 minutes and 35 seconds. Podgurski
has been the top finisher for the Eagles in all five meets
this season.
Owen Farcy finished second for the Eagles and 35th overall.
He was followed by Jonathan High in 48th place, Kile Krol
in 61st place, and Bryan Forsyth in 62nd place.
Emory's top five runners all ran under 28 minutes for the
third consecutive meet and the split between the first and
fifth runner was a season-low 1:02.
(Oct. 7) Emory University senior
Andrew Podgurski received Athlete of the Week honors for the
South region from southregionrunning.com. Podgurski finished
second out of 216 runners with a time of 25 minutes and 47
seconds at the NCAA Pre-National meet. This is Podgurski's
second South region Athlete of the Week honor this season.
(Oct. 4) Emory University finished
seventh out of 23 teams at the NCAA Pre-National meet. The
Eagles finished ahead of the 17th ranked team in the nation.
The team was led by Andrew Podgurski, who finished second
out of 216 runners with a time of 25 minutes and 47 seconds.
Owen Farcy ran a season-best time of 26:23, finishing 18th
and just missing his career best by one second. Jonathan High
finished third for the Eagles with a time of 26 minutes and
57 seconds. This is the second meet this season Emory has
had three runners run under 27 minutes.
The course for this race will be used again for the NCAA National
Championships, where the Eagles finished 16th last year.
(Sept. 23) Emory University senior
Andrew Podgurski received two Athlete of the Week honors this
week. He was named Athlete of the Week for the South region
by southregionrunning.com, and for the conference by the University
Athletic Association. He finished as the top non-Division
I runner at the Clemson Invitational with a career-best time
of 25 minutes and 42 seconds. That time is the best in the
South region this season.
(Sept. 23) Emory University is ranked
first in the South regional team rankings compiled by southregionrunning.com.
Emory was ranked third in last week's poll, but jumped to
the top spot after finishing as the top non-Division I team
at the Clemson Invitational. The Eagles have won five consecutive
NCAA regional titles and will host the 2004 regional meet
November 13.
(Sept. 18) Emory University finished
as the top non-Division I school at the Clemson Invitational.
The team finished third overall out of nine teams, most of
which were Division I schools.
Emory had four runners break 27 minutes in the race. Andrew
Podgurski finished first for the Eagles for the third consecutive
week with a career-best time of 25 minutes and 42 seconds.
He was followed by Jonathan High (26:18), Owen Farcy (26:39),
and Kile Krol (26:53). The times for High and Krol were career
bests.
(Sept. 11) Emory University finished
first out of 11 non-Division I teams at the Georgia State
University Invitational, beating four Division II schools.
All of Emory's top five runners finished among the top 20
overall. The team was led by senior Andrew Podgurski, who
finished first out of 98 runners with a time of 26 minutes
and 15 seconds. He was followed by Jonathan High, who finished
eighth with a career best time of 27:11. Kile Krol finished
10th, Owen Farcy came in 15th, and Rob Leventhal placed 19th
for the Eagles.
The Eagles won the meet for the first time since 1999 after
second-place finishes the last three years.
(Sept. 4) Emory University finished
second out of 16 teams at the Sewanee Invitational.
The Eagles had two runners in the top 10 and their entire
top seven in the top 35.
Andrew Podgurski led Emory, finishing
fourth out of 163 runners. He was followed by Owen Farcy,
Jonathan High, Bryan Forsyth, Kile Krol, Rob Leventhal, and
Matt Ross.
High's time of 27 minutes and 28 seconds was a career best
by 1:32 and a nearly five-minute improvement from his time
at this meet last year.
Forsyth's time of 27 minutes and 32 seconds is the best season
debut time for a freshman since 2000.
