JANE UKANDU FINISHES SEVENTH IN 100 METERS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
(May 27) Emory junior Jane Ukandu highlighted the Emory contingent at the NCAA Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., finishing seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.15.
Katie Anding competed in the pole vault for the Eagles. The 2006 UAA champion finished 13th in the event with a finals jump of 11'6.5".
Also competing in the championships was stand-out Ashley DeMarco in the heptathlon. DeMarco, who broke the school record for the event in points, finished 16th with 4240 points. Her top event for the competition came in the high jump where she finished third with a jump of 5-1 3/4.
She also finished seventh in the shot-put with a throw of 32 1-1/2.
The championships concludes an outdoor season for the Eagles that included a second-place finish at the 2006 UAA Championships.
ASHLEY DEMARCO QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS IN HEPTATHLON
(May 13) Ashley DeMarco of the Emory women's track and field sqaud qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon after scoring 4,364 points at the Lindenwood Last Chance Meet.
She won two events, the high jump and 100 meter hurdles. In the high jump she recorded a 1.61 meters, while in the hurdles she crossed the finish line at 15.30. DeMarco’s point total breaks the school record she already owned, which was 3,933 points
At the Georgia Tech Invitational, Jane Ukandu competed in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 25.89. Janina Kreider competed in the 400 meter dash and finished in a time of 1:00.63.
Up next for the Eagles is the North Central Invitational, May 17-20 in Naperville, Ill. This marks Emory's final comeptition before the NCAA Championships, May 25-27 in Lisle, Ill.
JANE UKANDU BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD IN 100 METERS
(May 6) The Emory women's track and field squad split for the weekend, heading to the Duke Twilight Meet in Durham, N.C., and the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
Highlighting the weekend was Jane Ukandu breaking the school record in the 100 meter dash and provisionally qualifying for nationals with a time of 12.11 seconds. She is currently ranked 12th in the country in the 100 meters.
Also in Athens, Janina Kreider ran a 58.77 in the 400 meters and Katie Anding pole vaulted at 11'5 3/4.
At Duke, Lauren Shores provisionally qualified for Nationals, finishing the 5000 meters in a time of 17:36. Melissa Jones finished four second off a provisional mark at 17:50.
Up next for the Eagles is a trip across town to Georgia Tech University for the Reebok Invitational, May 13.
EAGLES FINISH SECOND AT UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
(April 23) The Emory women's track and field squad finished second at the 2006 UAA Championships. The Eagles finished the meet with 174.50 points.
Highlighting Emory's second-place finish was Jane Ukandu winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.26, while finishing second in the 100 meter dash at 25.26.
Jordan Beall also scored for Emory in the 100 meters, finishing sixth at 13.22.
The 400 meter dash had Janina Kreider finishing fourth at 58.96. In the 800 meters, Julia Morton finished fifth at 2:23.80, while Rebecca Willett was eighth at 2:26.97.
Lauren Shores took second place in the 5000 meters in a time of 17:50.64. Amy Dibianca finished third at 17:52.36, while Melissa Jones was seventh at 18:29.18.
Shores and DiBianca finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 1500 meters. Shores crossed the finish at 4:43.70, while DiBianca was at 4:46.16.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Katie Parafinczuk was sixth in a time of 12:11.86 and Natalie Waryck finished eighth in the 10,000 meters at 44:32.01.
Relay competition saw Emory finish second in the 4x100 at 49.72 and fourth in the 4x400 at 4:05.74.
Field events saw Emory continue to post solid results. Tracy Whittaker finished fourth in the triple jump at 10.83 meters, while Katie Bergfeld was fourth in the javelin at 28.89. Alex Van Nostrand was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 28.80 and Ashley DeMarco was sixth at 28.80.
Bergfeld and Van Nostrand also claimed top 10 finishes in the hammer throw, with Bergfeld finishing sixth at 36.38 meters and Van Nostrand taking seventh at 36.00 meters.
EMORY STANDS SECOND AFTER FIRST DAY OF UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
(April 22) The Emory women's track team stands second with 64.50 points after the first day of competition at the UAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
Opening day action saw Ashley DeMarco and Katie Anding both claim top conference honors. DeMarco won the high jump with a finals jump of 5-03.75, while Katie Anding won the pole vault at 11-07.75. Her jump set a new UAA record, while also standing as an NCAA provisional qualifier.
Jordan Beall claimed second in the long jump at 5.40, while Anding was third at 5.35. Katie Bergfeld took second in the shot put at 38-07.75, and finsihed seventh in the discus with a throw of 113-11.00. Alex Van Norstand finished fourth in the shot put at 37-04.50.
The 4x800 relay team of of Rebecca Willett, Megan Shaughnessy, Melissa Jones and Julia Morton finished third, crossing the finish line in a time of 9:37.90.
Qualifiers were held in the 100 and 200 meter dash, with Jane Ukandu turning in the top times in each. Ukandu crossed the finish line at 12.31 in the 100 and 25.53 in the 200. Beall also qualified in the 100 with a time of 13.51.
Janina Kreider turned in the top qualifier in the 400 meter dash at 59.08, while DeMarco had the top qualifier in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.97. Anding also qualified in the hurdles at 16.27.
In the 800 meter preliminaries, Willett and Morton each qualified with Willett's time of 2:24.84 and Morton's at 2:25.17.
The Eagles return to action Sunday, with the final day of competition.
EAGLES WRAP UP EMORY MINI MEET
(April 15) The Emory women's track and field squad wrapped up preparations for the UAA Outdoor Championships with the Emory Mini Meet.
Katie Anding recorded two first place finishes to highlight competition for the Eagles. Anding won the pole vault at 11-00.00, while also taking first in the long jump at 17-00.00. She also took second in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.12.
Katie Bergfeld and Ashley DeMarco also recorded solid outings. Bergfeld won the shot put at 36-04.25 and the hammer at 118-03. She finished second in the discus with a finals throw of 110-07. DeMarco claimed first place in the high jump with a jump of 5-02.00.
Jane Ukandu finished second in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish at 12.62, while Janina Kreider took third in the 200 meter dash at 27.28.
In the 800 meter run, Emory finished two and three, with Julia Morton finishing second at 2:22.30 and Rebecca Willett third at 2:24.57.
Amy DiBianca finished second int he 1500 meter run with a time of 4:52.47.
In relay comeptition, Emory took first in the 4x100 with a time of 49.72 and second in the 4x400 at 4:14.35.
Up next is the UAA Outdoor Championships, April 22-23 in Cleveland, Ohio.
EAGLES RECORD SUCCESSFUL SPLIT SQUAD WEEKEND
(April 8) The Emory women's track and field squad claimed six first place finishes at the Mountain Laurel Invitational.
Katie Anding made it two weeks in a row with first place finishes, as she claimed the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.01, while also winning the pole vault at 11-07.00.
Megan Shaughnessy won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:33.88, while Lauren Shores claimed the 5000 meter run, crossing the finish line at 18:06.19. Natalie Waryck finished third in the event at 19:14.91.
In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Katie Parafinczuk took top honors with a time of 12:28.59. The final top finisher went to Katherine Smith in high jump, with a finals jump of 4-08.25.
Jordan Beall took second in the long jump at 16-05.25, while also finishing fourth in the 100 meter dash at 13.37.
Alex Van Nostrand collected three top five finished for the day, taking third in the shot-put (36-00.25), fourth in the discus (110-01) and fifth in the javelin (82-07). Katie Bergfeld also finished top five in the same events. She was fourth in the shot-put (35-11.50), fifth in the discus (102-06) and third in the javelin (91-06).
At the Duke Invitational, Julia Morton finished 19th in the 800 meters at 2:20.25. Amy DiBianca took 21st in the 5000 meter run at 17:51.57.

EAGLES CONCLUDE EMORY TRACK CLASSIC
(April 1) The Emory women's track and field squad concluded the Emory Track Classic, Saturday, April 1. Highlighting the event for Emory on the second day was Jane Ukandu winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
Ukandu won the 100 meters in a time of 12.46, while winning the 200 at 25.62. Jordan Beall was fourth in the 100 meters at 13.60, while Janina Kreider was fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.22.
Kreider also claimed a victory, winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 59.17, as she was the only competitor to finish under a minute.
Lauren Shores also took first in the 1500 meter run, winning in a time of 4:47.91. Amy DiBianca was second, crossing the finish at 4:48.68.
Katie Anding and Tracy Whittaker also took victories, as Anding won the pole vault at 11-05.75 and Whittaker winning the triple jump at 34-08.25.
The Emory 4x100 meter relay team took first, winning in a time of 50.32. Making up the team was Anding, Ukandu, Kreider and Beall.
Beall also competed in the long jump, taking second place with a finals jump of 16-10.00.
In the 5000 meters, Melissa Jones finished fourth in a time of 18:56.94, while Natalie Waryck was eigtht at 19:50.51.
Anding took third in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.30, while Ashley DeMarco was fourth at 16.47.
Rebecca Willett finished fifth in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:21.16, while Julia Morton was seventh at 2:24.11.
Up next for the Eagles is the Duke Invitational and Seminole Invitational, April 7-8.
EMORY TAKES TWO VICTORIES IN DAY ONE OF EMORY TRACK CLASSIC
The Emory women's track and field squad is set to play host to the 2006 Emory Track Classic.
Highlighting the first day for the women were Ashley DeMarco and Katie Bergfeld each winning an event. DeMarco won the high jump at 5-01.75, while Bergfeld won the shot put at 37-00.50.
Bergfeld also competed in the hammer throw, finishing second with a finals throw of 124-03.00. Alex VanNostrand was third at 114-08.00. Van Nostrand took second in the shot put, with a throw of 36-01.50.
DeMarco's win in the high jump was followed by Katie Sheehan in sixth with a jump of 4-07.75 and Katherine Smith in ninth at 4-07.75, as well.
Katie Parafinczuk claimed a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in a time of 11:56.44.
Emory will return to action Saturday with the final day of the event.
EAGLES OPEN 2006 OUTDOOR SEASON WITH EMORY INVITATIONAL
(March 25) The Emory women's track team opened the 2006 Outdoor track season with the Emory Invitational.
Highlighting the afternoon was Amy DiBianca winning the 5000 meter run in a time of 18:02.72. Nicole Degner took second in the event at 18:36.20, while Melissa Jones was fifth at 18:59.30.
Katie Parafinczuk took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:25.33. In the 400 meter run, Janina Kreider took fourth in a time of 59.36 seconds.
Lauren Shores competed in the seeded 1500 meter run taking third with a time of 4:49.42, while Natalie Waryck was fifth in the 1500 meters at 5:21.21.
Ashley DeMarco finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.87, while Katie Sheehan finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:13.27.
The Eagles had two competitors in the 800 meter run with Julia Morton finishing 10th at 2:25.34 and Rebecca Willett finishing 17th at 2:31.70.
In the relays, Emory took fifth in the 4x100 in a time of 50.51 and fourth in the 4x400 at 4:07.97.
The Eagles turned in solid performances in the field events, led by Alex VanNostrand's second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 37-05.75.
Katie Anding and Katie Bergfeld each recorded third place finishes. Anding took third in the pole vault at 10-06.00, while Bergfeld was third in the hammer throw with a 124-10.00. Bergfeld also finished fourth in the discus at 112-02.00. VanNostrand was fourth at 110-01.00.
DeMarco took fourth in the javelin with a 95-03.00 throw.
Up next for the Eagles is the Emory Classic, March 31-April 1.
EMORY FINISHES THIRD AT UAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
(March 4)The Emory women's indoor track and field team finished third at the UAA Indoor
Championships in Chicago, Ill. The women finished the event with 93.50 points.
Highlighting the event was Jane Ukandu, winning two events, while also setting UAA
records in the process.
Ukandu took first place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.22, which breaks the old
UAA mark. Her time also is a NCAA provisional qualifier. She also won the 200 meter
dash in a time of 25.59, breaking the old UAA record.
Ashley DeMarco also took home first place honors in the high jump with a mark of 1.62
meters. DeMarco also finished third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.64.
Janina Kreider finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.67. Two Eagles
competed in the mile run, finishing third and fourth. Lauren Shores finished third with
a 5:10.44, while Amy DiBianca was fourth at 5:16.89.
EMORY COMPETES AT UAA INDOORS
Jane Ukandu highlighted the first day of competition at the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships by winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.21. The meet is being held
at the University of Chicago.
The Eagles had three competitors claim third-place finishes. Janina Kreider was third in
the 400 meter dash at 1:01.49. Rebecca Willett took third in the 800 meter dash at
2:19.98, while Katie Anding was third in the pole vault at 3.36 meters.
Ashley DeMarco took fourth place in 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.93.
The women's team currently stands third in the points standings with 17. They will
conclude competition Saturday.
(Feb. 25) EMORY WRAPS UP FINAL MEET; SET FOR UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Emory women's indoor track and field team competed this past Saturday in the Sewanee Indoor Invitational, hosted by the University of the South.
Emory's Tracy Whittaker turned in a solid meet with two personal bests for the season. In the pole vault she turned in a 10-06.00, which betters her previous mark of 10-02.00. Her height of 10-06.00 was also good enough for first place in the event. She also competed in the triple jump, finishing second at 34-04.50.
In the 55 meter hurdles, Ashley DeMarco took second at 8.93, which is the fastest mark set by an Eagle this season. She claimed first place in the high jump at 5-02.00 and third in the high jump at 33-03.25.
Up next for Emory is the UAA Championships in Chicago, Ill., hosted by the University of Chicago, March 3-4.
(Feb. 18) EAGLES COMPETE AT TENNESSEE AND INDIANA
Emory's women's indoor track and field squad's competed in Knoxville, Tennessee and Bloomington, Ind., this weekend.
At Tennessee's Indoor Track Classic, Megan Shaughnessy highlighted competition by winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:26.90.
Jordan Beall competed in the long jump, finishing sixth with a finals jump of 15-07.00. Tracy Whittaker finished third in the triple jump, with a 32-11.85. Whittaker also finished third in the pole vault at 10-02.00.
At the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Emory's distance medley relay team finished third at 12:13.11. The distance medley relay team has already qualified for nationals and is currently ranked third in the country.
Julia Morton finished sixth in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:24.63. Jane Ukandu finished ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.30.
Ashley DeMarco finished fifth in the high jump with a finals jump of 5-02.25. She also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing 11th at 9.76 and 13th in 60 meter hurdles with a 9.93.
Up next for Emory is a return-trip to Sewanee, Tenn., to compete in the University of the South's Sewanee Indoor Invitational, Feb. 25.
(Feb. 11) EMORY SPLITS SQUADS FOR WEEKEND
The Emory women's indoor track and field squad split for the weekend, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Carolina Classic and Boston, Mass., for the Valentines Day Meet.
At the Carolina Classic, Melissa Jones finished seventh in the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:55.69. Jones' time marked her best for the season and second best on the squad.
Ashley DeMarco competed in the high jump, finishing 11th at 5-02.25 for the top mark set by an Eagle this season.
At the Valentines Day Meet, Rebecca Willett finished 39th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.68. Her mark stands as the Eagles' fastest time of the year in the 800.
The distance medley relay team finished 10th in a time of 12:12.66.
Up next for the Eagles is a trip to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Tennessee Indoor Track Classic.
(Feb. 5) EMORY FINISHES THIRD AT TIGER INDOOR INVITATIONAL
The Emory women's indoor track and field squad finished third at the Tiger Indoor Invitational with 50 points. The meet was held in Sewanee, Tenn., and hosted by the University of the South.
Ashley Flint highlighted the afternoon for the Eagles by winning the pole vault with a finals mark of 9-06.00. The first-place finish collected 10 points for the team, while fellow Eagle Tracy Whittaker finished second with a 9-00.00 to collect eight points.
Ashley Demarco finished third in the high jump with a 5-00.00. She also finished fourth in the shot put with a 33-09.50. Alex VanNostrand finished third in the shot put with a 35-00.50, collecting six points, while Demarco added four.
The 800 meter dash saw Rebecca Willett finish third with a 2:27.78. Tracy Whittaker finished fourth in the triple jump, collecting four points with a 33-08.00.
Emory splits the squad next week with the Carolina Classic, Friday, Feb. 10, in Chapel Hill, N.C., and the Valentine Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 11 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
(Jan. 29) DIBIANCA WINS MILE EVENT TO HIGHLIGHT EMORY COMPETITORS
Amy DiBianca highlighted the Emory women's indoor track and field team's competition Sunday at the Tennessee State Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
DiBianca won the open mile event in a time of 5:18.
Melissa Jones turned in a solid performance in the women's 3000 meter run, claiming fourth place in a time of 11:00.57.
Jane Ukandu finished 13th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.27. Her time was three-tenths of a second off of her personal best.
Janina Kreider took 17th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.77.
Up next for the Eagles is a trip to Sewanee, Tenn., to compete in the Tiger Indoor Invitational, Feb. 4. The event will be hosted by the University of the South.
(Jan. 21) EMORY COMPETES IN NISWONGER INVITATIONAL
The Emory women's indoor track and field squad opened 2006 by competing in East Tennessee State's Niswonger Invitational.
Lauren Shores highlighted the Emory contingent with a second-place finish in the unseeded 3000 meter run. Shores crossed the finish line in a time of 10:27.40. Fellow Eagle Amy DiBianca finished fourth in a time of 10:38.35.
Melissa Jones competed in the 5000 meter run, finishing 13th in a time of 19:38.22.
Up next for Emory is the Tennessee State Invitational, Jan. 28, in Nashville, Tenn.
(Dec. 3) EAGLES OPEN SEASON AT CLEMSON
The Emory indoor track and field team opened the season over the weekend at Clemson Opener in Clemson, S.C.
Julia Morton turned in a 13th-place finish in the 800 meter run, while Alisa Stern and Julia Thomas finished 19th and 21st, respectively. Morton finished the race in a time of 2:27.15. Stern crossed the finsih line at 2:30.79, while Thomas finished at 2:31.80.
The 60 meter hurdles had Ashley DeMarco finished 33rd at 10.79, while Jessica Carnes was 34th (10.81) and Katie Sheehan 35th (10.82).
The Eagles return to action January 20-21 when they travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Niswonger Invitational.
