February 16, 2004
I would first like to give Grabber
his due time,
For inspiring to write this hip rhyme.
After reading his diaries, the idea came to me,
I could write like he did and continue his legacy.
So let's cut past the bull, someway, somehow,
And start where we stand, which is right about now.
It was opening weekend but then came the rain,
But all that water had nowhere to drain.
We took off the tarp and laid down some dirt,
We heard the game was cancelled and it really, really hurt.
So CNU left town without a pitch for the fans to see,
Except when Doc Partin threw one past Coach T.
Oh yeah, we did get a chance to honor a super jock,
When we dedicated our new batting cages to the one and only Doc.
He's been around Emory since the second World War,
Last year they retired his number, Gehrig's number four.
So we now must wait for Tuesday to be here,
So sit back and relax, and pour yourself a beer.
Are the Yankees really going to have A-Rod and Jeter?
That just isn't fair, Steinbrenner YOU CHEATER!
Now opening day will be Tuesday against Sewanee,
Followed by Wednesday's game versus Washington and Lee.
Will's on the hill Tuesday followed by Tommy Mitch,
They'll lay down the law with each and every pitch.
We will steal 50 bases with Barrett and Rosie,
And after the game we will all watch the OC.
Pinckney will bring the pie and Zaychik the cookie dough,
And we will watch and see if Oliver gets kicked off the show.
Then next weekend we finish off with two games, not three,
Both home against Brescia College from Kentucky.
Steve is throwing Saturday but Sunday is up in the air,
I vote for Schorr to throw Sunday, but Coach doesn't care!
Baseball season begins while our basketball team's season ends,
By the time we're done playing ball, the Lakers will be crowned
World Champions!
I finally would want to let you fans reading this in cyberspace,
You might think I am normal, but that just isn't the case.
