Senior (2003-04):
In his last season, senior swingman Matt
Smith started 10 out of 25 games. In conference play, Smith ranked
14th in steals. On the team, he was third in rebounds and steals,
fourth in free throws made, sixth in points and minutes played.
In the second games of the season, a win at LaGrange College (Ga.),
Smith scored a career-high 21 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the
field. In the next game, a win at University of the South (Tenn.),
Smith grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. In his two year career
at Emory, Smith ranks 11th in school history in career field goal
percentage, 15th in career three-point percentage, 17th in career
field goal percentage, and 19th in career blocked shots.
Junior (2002-03):
Junior guard Matt Smith recorded two starts
on the season as the team’s top reserve. Smith led the team
in scoring with 17 points on January 19 against the No.1 team in
the country, Washington (Mo.). He also poured in six rebounds and
four steals in that contest. On the season he led the team in scoring
twice while recording nine games scoring in double digits. His averages
of 17.8 minutes, 6.3 points, and 2.8 rebounds were the highest among
non-starters. Smith also led the reserves in assists, blocked shots,
and steals. He led the team in three-point field goal percentage
(.415) and was second in blocked shots (11).
